My Ramadhan Goals (2015)

Assalammualaikum wbt.

InshaALLAH , in few days from now all Muslims around the world will celebrate Ramadhan. Ramadhan emphasizes us a feeling of particular closeness towards Allah SWT and amongst their family and friends.  Muslims have to change their whole physical and emotional selves during these 30 long days of fasting. “Ramadan al-Mubarak” is Arabic for: “The most precious congratulations on the occasion of the coming of Ramadan” .

As ALLAH SWT says :

The month of Ramadan is that in which was sent down the Qur’an, as a guide to mankind, with clear signs for guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put you to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful. When My servants ask you concerning Me, I am indeed quite near: I listen and answer the call of every caller when he calls Me. Let them listen to My call, and believe in Me; so that they may be guided aright.) (Al-Baqarah 2: 185-186)

This year, I will celebrate Ramadhan and fasting in Japan with my husband and children. As now I am no longer a career mother, hence my daily routine will not be the same anymore. I missed my circle group of tadarus in the office. The tazkirah/sermon that has been delivered by ustaz before zuhur prayer or after asar prayer. When everyone pray together until the saf will reach until 7-8 . It was really happening!. Unfortunately, this sight is only can been seen during Ramadhan.

Today, I am still happy and excited to celebrate Ramadhan since I can do something different and nothing can stop me from doing what I wanted to do. Here, I have a privilege as a SAHM (stay at home mother) to perform my prayer at anytime.( As early as ALLAH SWT asked us to do so). No one cares if I want to hear and watch my favourite Ustadh in Youtube. No more meetings to attend and graph bar on presentation slides to prepare.  I can read Al-Quran at my ease. If I feel tired than I can go straight to find my bed . Alhamdulillah for all nikmat that ALLAH SWT had shower to me and my family.

I have drafted my RAMADHAN GOALS yesterday and I wanted it to be written here and share with others. The reason that I made this is to ensure that I’ll remain productive during Ramadhan and know how to spent my time wisely for worshipping ALLAH SWT. Due to some reasons, I know it is possible to do it all since we need to do other things. Entertain the children and house chores to be done.

These maybe works for me and not others. Our ability, weakness and daily schedule is not same. Stop comparing and focus. Ramadhan is the time for us to self-improving. I am trying for have a quality instead of quantity in my ibadah.

So,hereby is the list :

#Ramadhanproject1 ( Tadarus ):

I have a circle of friends staying in nearby of our house and we agreed to read 1 juz’ for 1 week until Ramadhan ends. I called this OWOJ (One Week One Week).

#Ramadhanproject2 :

Pray on time :

Determine to perform pray on time. Get ready at least 5minutes before it’s time.

#Ramadhanproject3 ( Join Usrah ):

By having this once a week or twice a month via skype can really help me to feel more closer to ALLAH SWT since every one of us will talk about ibadah and remind us to do a good things.

#Ramadhanproject4 ( Stay away from social media / make a limit ):

Because It is affecting lives positively and negatively. In positive light, it is effecting an aura of knowledge acquisition and of guidance; whereas on the flip side, it is infecting others with the waste of time and sickening over indulgence. Whether it is a post, a tweet or a comment on anything, remember that in Ramadan, there should be a limit to which you pop into the social media arena. And if you can whatsapp for say 30 minutes then be ready to read more than half an hour of Qur’an.

#Ramadhanproject5 ( Listen and watch any sermon or tazkirah):

I love a Qura’nic Gem’s series from Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan. It’s only around 10-15minutes depends on the surah. Though it was more of reflections than a detailed tafsir, the amount of depth and valuable lessons in every ayah just never failed to amaze me, subhanAllah.

#Ramadhanproject6(Refrain myself from anger and have more patient )

No matter who you are ; a worker, a full house mother, a husband, a teenager, a mother with babies and toddlers, a boss…We all a slave to ALLAH SWT. Try hard to refrain my anger is sometimes very difficult to do. Having a small children in the house around the clock with another errands to do will test me all the time. Hence, I want to become a patient mother. InshaALLAH.

#Ramadhanproject7 (Not excessively cooking for Iftar) :
I love cooking!!!. It’s like a war within myself. I hope I will not distract on what-to-cook thinking everyday. Will have a simple menu for my family. I don’t want to see my food ended up in the rubbish.

#Ramadhanproject8 (Involve in volunteering program) :
Tell your spouse that you want to become a part of volunteer team or perhaps you can try to persuade all your family members If your situation is permissible to do so. InshaALLAH, I am planning to bring my daughter once or twice during this coming Ramadhan to become a helper to serve iftar to the people who wants to break their fast in Camii mosque.

#Ramadhanproject9 (Hold your tongue from saying bad things) :
The Muslim has to control his tongue and not speak unless he says something good.

Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or else keep silent …”

I believe that it comes from our heart. If we have a good and clean heart, hence all of our words that come out from mouth or what we type and share in social media will always good.

Another activities that I have planned is with my children :

1) Before breakfast time, ask the children on what kind of good deeds that they think and will do for the next day. It can be as simple as clean up their own toys by themselves, give salam before entering the house or classroom, switch off the bathroom light after using it and help mother with Iftar preparation

2) Teach any new surah for them. Or teach them the simple meaning of certain du’a. i.e : The meaning of Assalammualaikum, Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

3) Make a cookies and give them to the neighbors or teachers - We did this and Hannah was so delighted after she gave the cookies to her teachers. The respond that she got from her teachers was tremendously!. I also received a thank you email from her homeroom teacher regarding our sweet treats. Alhamdulillah...We both happy!

4) Fasting countdown chain
