Hari Ke Lima : Nijo Castle, Kyoto Aquarium & Toji Temple

By Monday, May 25, 2015 , ,

Finally,

I have come to the end of our Golden Week Holiday. On our last day, we managed to spent our time to visit these 3 places ; Nijo Castle in the morning, Kyoto Aquarium in the evening and Toji Temple during night.

                                                        Day-5. Let's start our journey!!!

                                                          Nijo Castle view from outside

In front of the main gate before enter the castle. Just a reminder, Nijo Castle opening hours is from 8:45 to 4:00pm. So please plan your trip properly. Kalau tak, jadi mcm kitaorg ..hari ke berape ntah, datang lmbt..kol 5 smpi..memang dah tutup la.

Cantik segala ukiran dan motif corak pada gate ni. Creative much!

Kawasan Nijo Castle ni agak luas. Ada 3 main areas. The  Honmaru (main circle of defense), the Ninomaru (secondary circle of defense) and some gardens that encircle the Honmaru and Ninomaru. The entire castle grounds and the Honmaru are surrounded by stone walls and moats.Hence, pushing the stroller was very hard for us. Huhuhu..

We had a tour inside the palace. The palace name is Ninomaru. The floors is squeaked when step upon as a security measure against intruders. It was covers by tatami mat and the sliding door  was beautifully painted (fusuma).

After visiting Nijo Castle, we went back to our house for lunch break and pray.  Nijo Castle is not far from Kyoto Station. Take the Karasuma Subway Line to Karasuma-Oike Station and transfer to the Tozai Line to Nijojo-mae Station. The whole trip takes about 15-20 minutes and costs 260 yen. Alternatively, the castle can be reached from Kyoto Station by Kyoto City Bus numbers 9, 50 or 101 (15-20 minutes, 230 yen one way) or from Shijo-Kawaramachi by Kyoto City Bus number 12 (15 minutes, 230 yen one way).

Afternoon :

We went to Kyoto Aquarium as it was only 10minutes walk from our house. The aquarium is not too big but good enough for the children to have fun in there. We managed to watch a dolphin show. They are very cute and funny too!.Some fun exhibits  we haven't seen elsewhere especially the salamanders.

                                                                    A dolphin shows
My children not only enjoy watching the dolphin show but they had fun with the shinkansen passing in front of them too!

                                                           Can you spot a salamander?

After 1 hour and half inside the aquarium, we  went to Toji Temple. It only took 15 minutes by foot from the aquarium . We just took a photo from outside since it's already closed. It's a temple Historic Buddhist  with a 5-story wooden pagoda.

Toji Temple marked our Golden Week Trip as a final stop. In a nutshell,  we do really enjoy our trip. But I would personally said that, Kobe is the best place among others . If we have another chance, we might consider to revisit Kobe in future. It just a simple city and yet a  fascinating one!. It was not too hustle and offer many places to visit especially those who have a small kid.

We 're not a Temple/building/shrine type person. Hence, we 're not regret for not visiting other temples / shrines in Kyoto. Another reason is, our kids is still small and hard for them to appreciate it.

Last but not least,  I'll share my personal reviews on our stay in Kyoto for next update. InshaALLAH.
